Historical Moments
1884: In its third season, the American Association continued to be plagued by a lack of stability as teams came and went quickly, lasting just one or two seasons. While the National League placed their teams in established cities on the East Coast, the AA was more experimental placing teams in smaller Midwest cities.
Among these was the Indianapolis Hoosiers. The Hoosiers struggled in their lone year of existence, finishing in 12th place with a record of 12-78. Jim Keenan was the Hoosiers top hitter, batting .293, while John Kerins had a team best six home runs.
On the mound Larry McKeon, was the top pitcher, posting a record of 18-41, with an ERA of 3.50. There would be later versions of the Indianapolis Hoosiers that played in the National League 1887-1889 and the Federal League in 1914.
