A Weekend Like Every Other
As social distancing and the COVID-19 pandemic continue, what would have been Masters weekend is instead another weekend of longing and misery. It is the first time that the Masters have been postponed since the tournament began in 1934. All four of golfs major tournaments have been rescheduled due to the coronavirus. The PGA Championship at Harding Park in San Francisco has been moved from May to August, while the U.S. Open at Wingedfoot in New York was moved from Father’s Day weekend to September. The Open Championship at Royal St. George was canceled for the first time since World War II. Augusta National meanwhile will instead of blooming trees, will be played amidst the fall foliage of Veteran’s Day Weekend.
