Custer Luck

Cole Custer became the first rookie to win a NASCAR points race, taking the checkered flag with a final lap pass in the Quaker State 400 at the Kentucky Speedway. The 22-year-old Custer is the odds on favorite for Rookie of the Year with three top-ten finishes, including a fifth-place finish last week at the Brickyard. With late caution, the race went to a green-white-checker finish, on the final lap Cole Custer passed veterans Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr, and Ryan Blaney. The rookie was helped by Matt DiBenedetto, who gave him a push to the front of the pack.
