deGrom’s Return Spoiled By Nats

Hits: 1

On Tuesday night the first place Mets welcomed back 2-time Cy Young winner, and 4-time All-Star, Jacob deGrom to the mound. In what was an impressive performance, the ace gave New York 5 innings, striking out 6 batters, and allowing only one run.

However, the bullpen lost their grip on the game, as the Nationals won the game 5-1. Luis Garcia hit a two-run homer off of Mets reliever Stephen Nogosek. Mets fans will feel a specific way about this game,  as deGrom not receiving run support has turned into a tale as old as time.

With the Braves winning, New York’s lead in the NL East has been trimmed to 2.5 games. However, if the Mets can keep deGrom healthy, their starting pitching is as potent as any team’s come September and October.
