Pistol Pete Maravich becomes the NCAA scoring leader, putting up 53 points as LSU beat Ole Miss 109-86 in Baton Rouge. The 53 points gave Maravich 2,987 career points breaking the record of 2,974 points held by Oscar Robertson from Cincinnati. Pistol Pete would top 3,000 points two days later in a 109-91 win over Mississippi State. Pete Maravich playing for his father at LSU, ended his career with 3,667 points, which remains the Division 1 record.
