Ron Hextall of the Philadelphia Flyers becomes the first NHL goalie to shoot and score, sending the puck down the length of the ice into an open net in the late stages of a 5-2 win over the Boston Bruins at the Spectrum. Hextall was the first goalie to shoot a puck into the opposing goal. Billy Smith was the first goalie, credited with a goal after an own goal by the Colorado Rockies in 1970.
