Commissioner Peter Ueberroth reinstates Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle.  The two Hall of Famers had been banned from baseball for working with casinos in Atlantic City. Neither were allowed to work in the game, due to a ban imposed by previous Commissioner Bowie Kuhn. Mays was banned in 1979 for working with Bally’s Park Place, while Mantle was banned in 1983 for working with the Claridge Casino.
