Heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano stuns the boxing world by announcing his retirement at the age of 31. Marciano who last fought Archie Moore in September, ended his career with a perfect record of 49-0, including 43 wins by knockout. He had held the title for nearly four years at the time of retirement. Rocky Marciano briefly considered a comeback in 1959, but after a month of training, he decided against it and retired as the only unbeaten and untied heavyweight champion.
