Affirmed was ridden by young Jockey Steve Cauthen, who is just passed his 18th birthday. In all three races, Affirmed battled Alydar, ridden by Jorge Velasquez. The time of the races was a quick 2:26.80, the third-fastest all-time at the Belmont, as Alydar was beaten by a head.
