The Los Angeles Dodgers suffer a forfeit loss against St. Louis Cardinals when fans become unruly and begin throwing souvenir baseballs that they received before the game. When the umpires stopped the game, the Cardinals had a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning. There was one out as Raul Mondesi struck out after starting with a 3-0 count and was ejected for arguing along with manager Tommy Lasorda. It was the third time the game had been interrupted by fans tossing baseballs on the field. Crew chief Jim Quick decided to order a forfeit feeling that it was not safe to finish the game at Dodger Stadium.
