Second-ranked Notre Dame remained unbeaten, taking down #19 North Carolina 31-17. The Tar Heels offense played well early as they went down the field as they scored on their first two possessions. Notre Dame was able to match Carolina’s output as the game was tied at the half. Notre Dame shut down North Carolina in the second half, as Ian Book, occasionally playing with fate and throwing balls that could have been disastrous, led two touchdown drives to win the game.
