The National Hockey League is founded in a meeting at the Windsor Hotel in Montreal. The league was formed out of the ashes of the National Hockey Association, which dissolved due to a bitter dispute with Toronto Blueshirts Owner Eddie Livingstone. After unsuccessfully forcing Livingstone to sell his team, the owners of the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Quebec Bulldogs, and Montreal Wanderers formed their own league with a Toronto franchise with a new owner.
