The New Orleans Saints stun the Detroit Lions 19-17 at Tulane Stadium, winning on a record 63-yard field goal by Tom Dempsey. It was one of just two games the Saints would win all season on the way to posting a record of 2-11-1. The achievement was even more remarkable because Dempsey was born without toes on his right foot and more a specially modified shoe, with a flattened and enlarged toe surface.
