The Minnesota Vikings ended the New Orleans Saints season in two of the last three seasons. They have become quite the thorn in the side of the Saints. New Orleans has dropped their last two games after nine straight wins. The Saints are one win away from the division title, Drew Brees returned last week and played well, but the Saints lost a battle with the Chiefs. The Saints will pretend Christmas is Festivus and unload their grievances.
The Detroit Lions are a mess; interim coach Darrell Bevel will miss this game under COVID protocols. The Lions will also be without several key defensive coaches as well including their defensive coordinator. The Lions would be in trouble if everything were copacetic, but it is impossible to see them stopping Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with these issues.
The San Francisco 49ers are familiar with State Farm Stadium, having played two home games there after the COVID restrictions in Santa Clara shutdown Levi’s Stadium. After playing in Super Bowl LIV, the Niners hope to end the season after being ravaged all season by injuries. They are now down to their third-string quarterback, with Nick Mullens injuring his elbow. This one will be ugly as the Arizona Cardinals win easily.
The Miami Dolphins are among a group of teams battling for the AFC Wild Card spots. It is likely that ten wins will not be enough for somebody. The Las Vegas Raiders are a long shot after their recent skid, three losses in four games, with the lone win against the pathetic Jets. This game is dangerous for Miami, as the Raiders are better than they have played. Derek Carr is expected to play after hurting his groin last week. The Dolphins’ defense will need to be stout again as they seek their tenth win.
After their four-game winning streak ended, the New York Giants have crashed back to earth with two straight losses. Daniel Jones is hurting, and the Giants have appeared to regress to their early-season mistakes. The Baltimore Ravens are coming off a blowout of the Jaguars as they carried the momentum from their win in Cleveland. The Ravens will continue to roll as the Giants continue to fade away.
The Cincinnati Bengals are coming off their best game of the season as they shocked the reeling Steelers on Monday night. The Houston Texans have had a pair of agonizing losses with the Colts in the past three weeks. This game will be one to miss as both teams are long since eliminated. The Texans are the better team with Deshaun Watson and will get the win but it will be close.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have not won since Week 1. They now sit at 1-13, with the inside track to land Trevor Lawrence as the first overall pick. The Jaguars will not screw up the take as the Jets did. They will lose, but like a lot of their losses, the game will be close. The Chicago Bears are back in playoff contention after winning their last two games. Mitch Trubisky has played well in those games. However, their win against Minnesota was close, and the same will be true this week as the Jags tease but lose a close one.
The Atlanta Falcons are the screwiest team in the NFL. They have flashes of brilliance where they can look like a good team, then all of a sudden boom, they blow a big lead and lose again. The Falcons are experts at losing in the fourth quarter and finding ways not to score in the red zone. The Kansas City Chiefs are one win away from assuring home-field advantage and a bye week, both of which can be key to repeating as Super Bowl Champions. The Chiefs are strong and looking like a team that will be holding the Lombardi again.
The New York Jets are off the snide they won their first game last week against the lost in space Rams. In a year of sheer incompetence, they have ruined the tank for Trevor. The Cleveland Browns know all about losing and are glad those days are behind them. At 10-4, the Browns have work to do to make the playoffs in the loaded AFC. They can even win the division if they win their last two games. Look for the Browns to get a big lead and run away with this game.
After starting 11-0, the Pittsburgh Steelers have begun to rust, losing three straight. The Steelers, even as they were winning, looked out of sorts. Now they look like one of the worst teams in the NFL. They had a putrid performance on Monday Night. The Indianapolis Colts at 10-4 can still win the AFC South but need to keep the pressure on the Titans. The Colts have had a strong defense, which is problematic for Ben Roethlisberger, who looks banged up and about to check out as he has become lumbering as the Steelers offense can’t get anything going.
Just as the season is coming to an end, the Los Angeles Chargers have learned how to finish games and win. In each of the past two weeks, Justin Herbert has led them on game-winning drives to walk off a winner. Herbert has played well all season and is likely going to win the Rookie of the Year. The Denver Broncos rallied to beat the Chargers earlier in the season in Denver. This time the Chargers will finish off the Broncos as they continue their strong finish.
With a win, the Washington Football Team can move closer to winning the NFC East. The WFT does not know yet who will start at quarterback as Dwayne Haskins violated COVID protocol, while Alex Smith is trying to recover from a sore calf. Haskins likely will be the starter, but the key will be their defense. It has been Chase Young and the Washington defense that put them into this position. That Carolina Panthers will not handle the Washington defense, and that will be how the East is won.
As horrible as the Dallas Cowboys have played, they have the inside track to win the NFC East if Washington stumbles in their final two games. The Cowboys are closing the season with divisional games. The Philadelphia Eagles are 1-1 with Jalen Hurts at quarterback as Carson Wentz wants out of Philadelphia. The Eagles will regret how they handled the Wentz situation down the road. As for now, look for the Cowboys to find a way to win this game at home, keeping things interesting.
The winner of this game will decide the NFC West. The Los Angeles Rams got caught looking ahead last week and were stunned by the winless Jets. The Rams always play well against the Seattle Seahawks and will come out strong on Sunday. The NFL is screwy, and the Rams will find redemption after their embarrassing loss by sweeping Seattle and taking back first place in the NFC West.
The Green Bay Packers can lock up home-field with a win on Sunday Night. The Tennessee Titans are trying to beat off the Colts to win the AFC South. The Packers have had their troubles with teams that can run the ball. There is no team better at running the ball than the Titans. Derrick Henry is making his case for MVP and carries the way for Tennessee to get a big win in Lambeau Field.
The New England Patriots are already dead, the Buffalo Bills have won the AFC East. The Patriots had that crown in 17 of the last 19 years, including 11 straight seasons, a dynasty that will likely never be matched. Cam Newton has been terrible all season as the Patriots have not scored a touchdown in eight quarters. Buffalo, meanwhile, is finishing with a flourish. Look for them to go to Foxboro and take out 20 years of frustration with a Monday Night beatdown.
